Custom AI agents for Business Central, built with Copilot Studio
Microsoft Copilot Studio is a low-code tool for building AI agents. Connected to Dynamics 365 Business Central ERP data and your SharePoint documents, an agent can analyse your business, answer questions and carry out permitted tasks.
Built on these Microsoft building blocks
Microsoft Copilot Studio
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
Microsoft Power Platform
A Copilot agent can connect to Business Central and third-party data sources
Your agent is built in Copilot Studio and reads live ERP data from Business Central — and through MCP or connectors it can also reach third-party systems, databases and SharePoint files.

Microsoft Copilot Studio
The low-code studio where you write your agent's topics, actions and knowledge sources.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
The ERP source of truth — customers, items, sales, purchases, jobs and finance.

Microsoft Power Platform
Copilot Studio sits on Power Platform, so agents can use connectors, Dataverse and Power Automate flows.

How Copilot Studio works with Business Central and SharePoint
Live Business Central data
Agents connect through the Business Central connector or MCP server to read customers, orders, invoices and inventory — and, where you allow it, create or update records using BC's own pricing and validation rules.
SharePoint knowledge
Add SharePoint sites and documents — contracts, price lists, SOPs, policies — as knowledge sources, so answers combine ERP figures with your company's own rules.
Where your team works
Publish the agent to Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365 Copilot or your website. Staff ask in plain English or Chinese instead of opening many ERP pages.
Permissions respected
Each user signs in with their own account, so the agent only sees and does what their Business Central and SharePoint permissions allow.
Connect your agent with MCP: Business Central and beyond
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard for how an AI client — Copilot Studio, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT or your own agent — discovers and uses an external system's data and actions. Instead of building a separate integration for every system, you connect each one once as an MCP server and the agent picks the right tool for each question.
Business Central connector
Best for standard, low-code automation. You add predefined actions — find, create or update a record — one at a time. Quick to set up, but less flexible for advanced scenarios.
Business Central MCP server
Best for advanced or fast-changing needs. The agent discovers the API pages, queries and actions your administrator has approved, then reads, creates, updates or runs actions such as posting a document — always within the signed-in user's permissions.
What you can connect with MCP
Business Central (ERP)
Customers, items, sales, purchases, jobs and finance, exposed through API pages and API queries. The built-in default is read-only; you switch on create, modify, delete and actions when you are ready.
Other Microsoft services
Microsoft publishes MCP connectors for Dataverse, Dynamics 365, Fabric, GitHub and Azure DevOps, so an agent can reach the rest of your Microsoft systems without new code.
Your own systems
Put your WMS, POS, manufacturing system or internal database behind a hosted MCP endpoint — a URL plus sign-in — and add it on Copilot Studio's Tools page. One server can carry many tools.
Partner and vendor servers
MCP servers published by other vendors connect the same way. Copilot Studio keeps the tool list current automatically, and your administrators decide which servers users may add.
Copilot Studio supports MCP tools and resources over the Streamable transport. What is available depends on your Business Central version, licences and tenant settings.
